Vaughan Elementary School is marking several events and initiatives in October aimed at engaging students, families, and staff. The school is recognizing Public Safety Week from October 6 to 10, highlighting the contributions of Officer Serra for ensuring safety on campus. “Your dedication, vigilance, and care make a world of difference — thank you for being our everyday hero!” the school stated.
In observance of National Custodian Day on October 2, Vaughan Elementary celebrated its custodial staff—Mr. Bernard, Mr. Chris, Ms. Audrey, and Ms. Senait—for their efforts in maintaining a clean and safe environment.
A recent pep rally hosted by Strong 4 Life focused on promoting healthy habits among students through four principles: eating better and drinking water, getting more rest, recognizing emotions as real, and encouraging play. The school thanked the group for motivating students to lead healthy lives: “Thanks for inspiring us to be our best selves—strong inside and out!”
Other recent activities included a book fair with prizes for participants, Goodies with Grown-Ups social event, and special VIP lunch tables for students recognized for positive behavior.
The school is preparing for Conference Week starting October 13th. Parents are encouraged to sign up for meetings with teachers to discuss student progress.
As part of ongoing academic engagement efforts, Vaughan Elementary launched an October Family STEM Challenge that invites families to design constellations after listening to a related story.
Cognia surveys are available through October 17 for students, parents, and staff to provide feedback on academic learning and wellness at Vaughan Elementary and across the Cobb County School District. These anonymous surveys help inform local schools and accrediting agencies about the educational environment.
First and third grade students are participating in CogAT testing from October 6-8. The school reminded families that testing begins promptly at 8:00 AM each day.
Other upcoming events include Picture Retake Day on October 6 for students who missed the original session or need new photos; Kona Ice will be available after lunch on October 10; Skate Night is scheduled at Hiram Sparkles that evening from 4:30 to 7 p.m.; Digital Learning Day occurs on October 13; National School Lunch Week runs from October 13-17; National School Bus Safety Week begins on October 21; IOWA testing for third and fifth grades will take place from October 21-29.
The PTSA is organizing Monster Mash on Friday, October 24 from 6-8 p.m., featuring food trucks, costume parades, trunk-or-treating activities after fall break (with sign-ups required), and a pumpkin decorating contest with details forthcoming. Students continue to be recognized through PBIS raffles for positive behavior (“These amazing Rockets showed outstanding responsibility and earned their Mission: Success stickers!”), DreamBox math lesson completion awards (“These students had the most completed DreamBox lessons in their grade level”), yearbook cover design contests sponsored by PTSA (with this year’s winner named Jonah), spirit wear prizes donated by PTSA (“Congratulations to our Vaughan Spirit Wear Winner—rocking that school pride in style!”), and birthday celebrations throughout the month.
