Vaughan Elementary School has surpassed the $20,000 mark in its Rocket Blast fundraising campaign. As a result, administrators worked from the school roof on September 11 as part of a promised milestone event. Earlier, students celebrated reaching the $10,000 goal with a Glow Lunch on September 10.

The final fundraising target is set at $30,000. If achieved by September 19, administrators will participate in an activity involving giant hamster balls. Donations are being accepted until that date. Field Day activities will be held during specials on September 19 to celebrate community support, and families are invited to attend during their child’s specials time.

Classroom updates include recognition for Ms. Chow, Ms. Perkins, and Ms. Deck, who participated in a mummification activity this week. Several teachers’ classes also qualified for Astronaut Artists and outdoor picnic lunches.

For fifth grade students, fundraising incentives include a kickball game reward for the top two classes—currently Estes and Fortney—and a tournament if the entire grade raises $5,000 or more; so far they have collected $4,075. The leading class will receive the Ultimate Kickball Trophy.

A recent Chick-fil-A Spirit Day saw strong participation from families and included appearances by the restaurant’s mascot during morning car line and evening gatherings at the restaurant.

Open House began with a PTSA meeting where students presented data to their families.

Recent events also included Walk to School Day and observances for Patriot Day.

On Monday, September 15th, routine hearing and vision screenings will be conducted for students in first, third, and fifth grades during school hours; no action is required from families.

Weekly PBIS raffle winners were recognized for demonstrating responsibility.

A student was named Vaughan Spirit Wear Winner for displaying school pride.

Vaughan Elementary has been selected as one of the pilot schools for Strong 4 Life by Children’s HealthCare of Atlanta. Students received water bottles and viewed an introductory video about wellness as part of program launch activities. A pep rally is scheduled for October 2 to further promote wellness initiatives; another celebration with Children’s HealthCare staff is planned for April.

Cognia surveys are available from September 10 through October 17 for students, parents, and staff to provide feedback on academic learning environments and wellness. Participation is voluntary and anonymous; results help inform Cobb County School District decision-making (https://www.cobbk12.org/vaughan/page/12081/feeder-schools).

Other upcoming dates include Rocket Blast donation collection through September 19; Terrific Kids: Compassion event on September 18; STEM Challenge due date on September 19; Fall Break from September 22-26; Fall Bookfair starting September 29; PTSA Goodies with Grownups event on September 30 (for last names A-L) and October 1 (M-Z).

The school continues its mission to engage, inspire, and achieve academic excellence within an innovative learning community.
