Former President Donald Trump admits he is considering supporting Republican Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp in his November re-election effort against Democrat Stacey Abrams.
Trump, who has long railed against Kemp for certifying President Joe Biden’s victory in Georgia following the 2020 presidential election, said nothing was out of the question, according to Fox 5 Atlanta.
“Well, we’ll be looking at everything,” Trump told Fox News Digital.
Kemp won the GOP primary with nearly 74% of the vote, setting up a rematch with Abrams, whom he defeated in 2018, according to the Fox report.
Since his reign as president, Trump’s influence over the Republican Party remains strong as a recent CPAC straw poll showed he has 69% support among attendees in a hypothetical GOP primary in 2024, where Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis would finish second.
Candidates endorsed by Trump have recently prevailed in competitive GOP gubernatorial primaries including Kari Lake in Arizona, Tudor Dixon in Michigan and Dan Cox in Maryland, according to Fox 5 Atlanta.
