Some Cobb County School District staff soon will start receiving a temporary pay increase funded by federal COVID relief money and Superintendent Chris Ragsdale's priorities during the pandemic, according to a recent press release.

Effective Labor Day, Cobb County Schools substitute and supply teachers, and substitute nurses and supply nurses, will be eligible for temporary pay increases expected to last through the end of May 2022. The eligible employees will start seeing the money in their Oct. 29 paycheck, according to a school district press release issued Aug. 31.

"Whether they are part-time, temporary or full time, every team member can change a student’s life," school district Chief Human Resources Officer Keeli Bowen said in the press release. "This raise is another example of Superintendent Ragsdale’s priority of putting CARES Act relief dollars as close to the classroom as possible."

Cobb County School District is one of the nation’s largest and is the second largest in Georgia, with almost 110,000 students and 18,000 employees serving a community of more than 800,000 residents.

Cobb County Schools substitute teachers' daily pay rate will temporarily increase to $189 while that of supply teachers will temporarily increase to $212. Substitute and supply nurses will see their hourly rate temporarily increase by $4 per hour, or $27.89.

The Cobb County Schools teacher substitutes and nurses are not the only ones this year "to see a monetary thank you," the press release said. "Superintendent Ragsdale recently announced a $1,200 retention bonus for all bus drivers and monitors payable in their December payroll."

Bus drivers and monitors must be on the payroll by Sept. 24 to be eligible for the retention bonus.

Cobb County School District also is hiring. Anyone interested in applying may visit the district website.
