Republican candidates getting ready for this year's midterms are falling all over themselves to show proximity to former President Donald Trump and his policies.

Jake Evans is one of several candidates running in the GA-6 GOP primary, and he is no different. But when the former president was running against Hillary Clinton in 2016, Evans was not very enthusiastic, calling Trump the "lesser of two evils" in an interview with PBS.

"I will vote for Donald Trump because I think he aligns more with my personal ideologies, less government, lower taxes, less regulation," he told PBS in October 2016. "I believe, personally, that's what's best for the country, but I will do it reluctantly."

Additionally, Evans emphasized the view many millennials likely held about the election, that his is a generation of equality in terms of gender and race. He noted at that time that Trump "undoubtedly" leads some to believe he does not fully further the gender equality motives.

Evans is currently a partner in the Atlanta offices of Hall Booth Smith P.C., focusing on litigation and regulatory issues, his bio on the law firm's website said. He also serves as the chairman of the Georgia Government Transparency and Campaign Finance Commission (formerly the State Ethics Commission). Additionally, Evans heads the Georgia Chapter of the Republican National Lawyers Association.

Along with Meagan Hanson and Rich McCormick, the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) has identified Evans as one of the GOP's "Young Guns" running in competitive congressional races.

The GOP primary for Georgia's 6th congressional seat is a crowded field with nine candidates, a Ballotpedia report said. The primary election will be held on May 24.
