A recent poll by the Senate Opportunity Fund revealed that more voters are placing blame on President Joe Biden than Russian President Vladimir Putin for the soaring gas prices in Georgia and across the nation.

The survey was taken from March 15-17, polling 800 likely voters nationally, the Senate Opportunity Fund reported. Forty-six percent of respondents said Biden is responsible for high gas prices, compared to 23% who believe Putin is at fault. Nineteen percent of respondents blamed both Biden and Putin, while the remaining 12% had no opinion or refused to answer.

Biden recently unveiled a plan during a press conference to release more than 180 million barrels of crude oil from the nation's Strategic Petroleum Reserve over the next six months in an effort to combat gas prices. Biden said this action will help get Americans through the year and will give American oil companies time to increase production.

"I know gas prices are painful. My plan will help ease that pain today and safeguard against it tomorrow," Biden said in a tweet. "I'll continue to use every tool at my disposal to protect you from Putin's price hike. And I'm calling on Congress to put aside partisanship. Let's meet this moment together."

The cost for fuel is a leading driver of consumer inflation. Metro Business Daily's Gasoline Misery Index reported that on average, U.S. citizens will pay $667 more this year on gas than they did in 2021.

The average cost for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Georgia was at $3.80 as of April 8, AAA reported. The average nationally was at $4.14.
