CTAE (Career, Technology, and Agricultural Education) offers students career-specific skills through industry-aligned pathways. CTAE Supervisor Art O’Neill discusses the various pathways available to Cobb students across 17 industries, preparing them for direct entry into the workforce or further education.

Opportunities in CTAE begin early with exploratory programs in middle schools that help students identify interests and aptitudes. Parents are encouraged to engage from elementary school when skill assessments start.

Middle school programs focus on career exploration, helping students build portfolios with digital badges and certifications. High school pathways provide deeper engagement with hands-on skills and career technical student organizations for networking and leadership development.

A significant aspect of the program is work-based learning (WBL), where high school students apply classroom knowledge in real-world settings like hospitals or manufacturing plants. Available to students aged 15 and older, WBL combines practical experience with industry mentorship. Summer WBL opportunities also offer paid internships, allowing year-round skill development.

Mr. O'Neill highlights differences between articulated credits and dual enrollment. Both options enable high school students to earn college credits, accelerating their education and career preparation. CTAE contributes to student success in Cobb County, boasting a 99% graduation rate for those completing a CTAE pathway.
