Families across the metro area are invited to attend the annual Cobb Schools Community Connections Resource Fair, designed for students with disabilities. This event is scheduled for Thursday, February 6, 2025, at 6:00 PM and will be held at the Cobb Innovation and Technology Academy in Marietta.
The resource fair offers a platform for families to engage with representatives from over 50 attractions, organizations, and businesses in Cobb County and the greater Atlanta area. It focuses on providing sensory-friendly and accessible options beyond traditional therapeutic services.
Children can explore science through interactive exhibits from institutions like the Fernbank Museum and Tellus Science Museum. They can also participate in adaptive sports programs such as Special Pops Tennis and BlazeSports America, Inc., or engage in art and music workshops offered by organizations like Songs for Kids and the Georgia Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, sensory-focused play centers like Sloomoo Institute, inclusive recreational facilities like the YMCA, Zoo Atlanta, Six Flags Over Georgia, summer camp providers like Camp Big Heart, and social opportunity organizations such as Erin’s Hope for Friends will showcase their offerings.
Feedback from previous events highlights the fair's value to families. One parent noted that "this event opened doors to resources and activities we never knew existed, giving our child opportunities to thrive socially and emotionally."
The event features a vendor-style format with decorated tables that encourage interaction. Families can ask questions, gather information, and make connections in an engaging environment. The Cobb Schools Special Education Leadership team will be present to provide additional support during the evening.
The focus on accessibility and sensory-friendly options makes this fair particularly appealing to families. Participating organizations offer a range of activities from recreational sports to arts programs and community services. These offerings aim to promote inclusivity beyond the classroom.
The Community Connections Resource Fair exemplifies how Cobb Schools supports its families by fostering a community where all students can succeed.
