Clarkdale Elementary School's first-grade students have taken part in a wildlife conservation project with the Georgia Aquarium. The collaboration involved researching endangered species and creating educational materials, which were then displayed at the aquarium.

The students focused on African Penguins, Beluga Whales, and Southern Sea Otters. Using Book Creator, they produced informational books that included details about each species' habitat, diet, threats, and conservation efforts. They also designed infographics and public service announcement videos to share their findings.

Their work attracted the attention of the Georgia Aquarium’s education department. As a result, their projects were showcased for visitors at the aquarium. The students visited the aquarium to see their contributions displayed.

Clarkdale teachers Unique Duffy, Saysha Jackson, and Kaitlin Todaro stated: “Engaging in real-world problem-solving through this collaboration has sparked curiosity, fostered critical thinking, and empowered our students to see themselves as changemakers.”

The initiative demonstrated that young students could contribute to conservation efforts. Clarkdale Elementary aims to continue providing similar learning experiences that encourage curiosity and empower students.
