As part of its ongoing commitment to enhancing safety measures, the Cobb County School District is introducing Vapor Wake canine detection teams to its security protocol, known as Cobb Shield. This initiative involves collaboration with Global K9 and aims to identify person-worn or concealed explosives and firearms on school campuses.

Vapor Wake canines are trained differently from traditional detection dogs. They continuously sample the air for concealed threats, allowing them to track potential dangers even while in motion. This capability offers real-time security monitoring and facilitates swift responses to possible threats.

The implementation of Vapor Wake technology in Cobb schools reflects a broader interest in adopting safety measures that have been effective at large public venues and other educational institutions across the United States. These canine teams currently operate in various high-profile locations, including major universities, professional sports arenas, theaters, and the United Nations.

"We want our families to see for themselves that our schools are the safest in our community," stated Board Chair David Chastain. "These canine teams are another example of us identifying and addressing threats before they happen."

The introduction of Vapor Wake technology is part of a comprehensive security strategy employed by Cobb Schools. The district also operates a 24/7 tip line for reporting safety concerns and has equipped staff with a crisis alert system for rapid emergency response. Additionally, partnerships with intelligence community members help keep the district's safety team informed about potential threats.

These efforts underscore Cobb’s commitment to maintaining safe environments for students and staff alike.
