School counselors have evolved from their traditional roles to address a broader range of student needs, focusing on academic achievement, college and career readiness, and personal growth. Patty DaSilva, Cobb's Supervisor of School Counseling, shared insights on how these professionals collaborate with parents, teachers, administrators, and community members to support students in achieving their goals.

DaSilva explained that counselors use tools like interest inventories and assessments to help students identify their strengths and interests. "Starting as early as pre-K," she noted, "they introduce students to a wide range of career possibilities that align with their skills and passions."

In addition to academic guidance, school counselors provide emotional support and crisis intervention. They assist students facing everyday social conflicts or family issues while also addressing more significant crises such as the loss of a student or staff member.

The involvement of parents is crucial in this process. They are encouraged to engage with school counselors by staying informed about available resources and participating in advisement programs. Maintaining open communication between families and counselors can aid students in overcoming academic, career, and personal challenges for long-term success.
