Cobb Schools' Athlete of the Week program recognizes male and female student-athletes for their achievements in sports, academics, and school communities. This initiative is supported by BSN Sports.
This week's honorees are basketball players from Pebblebrook and South Cobb: Goddess Hancock, a senior for the Falcons, and DJ McMillan, a junior for the Eagles.
Goddess Hancock showcased her skills in one of her final games wearing the #5 jersey for the Falcons, scoring 12 points with four steals, six rebounds, and three assists. She has been playing basketball for ten years and excels both on the court and academically. Additionally, she is part of the Young Entrepreneur Association and runs her own athleisure clothing line.
"Goddess brings a multitude of qualities to the team. She has this contagious work ethic, and her dedication and desire to be a better player are undeniable," said Coach Tina Hadley. "She consistently demonstrates dedication, hard work, and a positive attitude. This inspires others to follow suit and elevates the overall team performance."
Coach Hadley further praised Hancock: "She's a force to be reckoned with on the court. She has quick hands, incredible footwork, and unimaginable strength. She's the kind of player who makes everyone around her better... She's a role model for every young athlete out there."
DJ McMillan played a key role in South Cobb's recent victory over McEachern by scoring 21 points along with seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Known for his positive attitude both on and off the court, he also participates in AAU basketball and community service events.
"He is very deserving of this award," stated Eagle Head Coach Hollis Bethea. "DJ is one of those young men who leads by setting good examples... He means a great deal to this team for our overall success with his scoring, rebounding, and defensive abilities."
Coach Bethea added: "I have witnessed firsthand the hard work... He's humble... DJ has been recognized as one of the top junior basketball players in the state."
South Cobb Athletic Director Ormond Moore also commended McMillan: "DJ is one of the most passionate athletes we have at South Cobb," he said.
Congratulations were extended to both athletes for their exceptional performances in sports and academics.
