The Cobb County School District in Georgia has been commended for its academic performance, with 44 schools recognized as "Georgia Math Leaders" by State School Superintendent Richard Woods. This honor signifies the schools' notable success in math achievement and leadership.

Superintendent Woods visited Smitha Middle School to personally acknowledge the contributions of these schools to math education. This event follows a similar ceremony honoring Cobb schools for literacy achievements in the fall.

Woods emphasized the significance of student achievement growth, stating, "The banners and ribbons are designed to recognize growth. Growth is extremely important. We may not be at the promised land of proficiency yet, but it’s important to acknowledge that we are moving in the right direction.” He also highlighted the collective efforts of teachers, administrators, and support staff in creating thriving educational environments.

The 44 Cobb schools honored demonstrated significant improvements in student performance, including Pearson Middle School, which recorded the highest growth gains. Some middle and elementary schools showed marked increases, with several seeing double-digit gains in math scores.

Ford Elementary School has also been recognized as a "Georgia Flagship School" for its exceptional support for military families. Through collaboration with the Yellow Ribbon Program, Ford Elementary offers programs and resources for military-connected students, emphasizing care and quality education.

Superintendent Woods remarked on Ford Elementary's commitment, saying the school "exemplifies dedication to ensuring military-connected students receive the stability, care, and high-quality education they deserve."

This recognition not only highlights the academic achievements of Cobb Schools but also underscores their efforts in creating inclusive and supportive environments for all students.
