Kell High School is enhancing students' career readiness by expanding their access to community opportunities. The recent Millie Threeton World of Work Career Fair at the school brought together students and professionals from various industries, providing a platform for exploring career paths, asking questions, and building connections. Local businesses showcased real-world opportunities, offering insights into current jobs and future career planning.

The fair aimed to introduce students to diverse career options and connect them with local businesses and organizations. These entities set up booths to promote their industries, share job opportunities, and explain necessary qualifications. The event facilitated direct engagement between students and industry professionals.

“It brings our entire community together and gives our students a glimpse of all the different careers,” said Kell Principal Dr. Peter Giles. “Many of our students will come out of this day with a job.”

Dr. Giles noted that the event is highly valued by students during the school day, receiving positive feedback from both students and community members.

The career fair featured numerous local businesses across various industries. Students rotated through the gym in 45-minute intervals to visit booths that interested them, organized by industry clusters. This setup helped focus on areas sparking student interest while encouraging interaction with vendors about career paths and required qualifications.

Unlike stressful job interviews, the fair provided a relaxed environment where students comfortably interacted with potential employers.

“It exposes you to a lot of different opportunities and paths you can go after high school or during high school," said Kell student Boston. "A lot of kids think the only path is college...the career fair is a place that can expose you to a lot more.”
