Cobb County became the very first in the State of Georgia to have a help desk for citizens seeking to seal criminal records, Fox 5 Atlanta reported.
Called the "Second Chance Desk," the help desk began operations on June 25. The staff works inside the Cobb County Circuit Defender's Office. Its goal is to eliminate barriers to employment, housing and other opportunities for Georgia residents with certain misdemeanor convictions, Fox 5 said.
“We should not be defined by our worst moments. We should be defined on how we recover and grow from them. I’m thrilled Cobb County is taking a positive step to help Georgians expunge their criminal records,” Priscilla Smith, a candidate for Georgia House District 34 in Cobb County, said in a Tweet.
Individuals with eligible offenses can make an appointment on Cobb County’s Government website to receive a free consultation from an attorney and assistance filling out record restriction forms.
Cobb County will be the very first in the State of Georgia to have a criminal records expungement help desk.
Lawyers from the Cobb County Circuit Defender's Office and the Georgia Justice Project will be running the help desk. It will be open from 9 a.m. to noon on Fridays, Fox 5 reported.
