As another wave of COVID outbreaks hit the U.S., Cobb County elementary school parents and children learned this week that they will once again have to return to online learning for the time being.
In a statement sent to Fox 5, Cobb County Schools said, "When providing high-quality instruction in a classroom is not possible, due to the number of students or staff in quarantine, we look forward to each student receiving a high-quality virtual experience through Cobb teachers and the Cobb Teaching and Learning System (CTLS)."
The switch comes as Georgia experiences a surge in COVID cases, along with other states around the country. The seven-day rolling average of positive COVID cases in Georgia rose above 5,300 this week, triggering more strict protocols, Fox 5 reported. As a result, fifth-graders at East Side Elementary School learned virtually from Aug. 12-20, and possibly longer depending on how the situation unfolds.
As of Aug. 13, the school district reported 253 active cases, with three of those being recorded at East Side Elementary.
