The Cobb County School District has launched a survey to see if parents would allow their children to participate in optional COVID-19 testing if it were made accessible in schools, according to a report by Fox 5 Atlanta.

District officials have also said that they are considering partnering with local and state public health agencies to conduct the testings.

’’As the grandmother, I am grateful that Kim and Manu signed up to participate in the school COVID testing program," Sara Cobb said on Twitter, "Imagine if my granddaughter had infected other children who in turn infected babies that could have ended up in the ICU or worse.’’

The survey indicated that more testing options may help reduce the amount of time children spend away from a face-to-face classroom setting, according to a Patch report.

“We believe keeping students in face-to-face classrooms is critical for both students and families,” the Cobb County district said in a message issued through its ParentVUE portal on Aug. 24.

Some parents have reported that existing mass testing facilities can have a four-hour wait time and that enabling children to get tested at school would be a more convenient alternative.

Recently, metro Atlanta schools reported 13,000 COVID-19 cases; last week, Cobb County schools reported nearly 1,800 cases.

Permission from a parent would be needed for a child to participate in the Covid testing conducted in school, according to a report by East Cobb News.
