River Ridge High School issued the following announcement on June 14.
Cherokee County School District employees and volunteers have been honored by the PTA with state awards!
The Georgia PTA at its annual convention, which was held last weekend in Columbus, recognized outstanding PTA volunteers and school district employees from across the state, with several top honors presented to Cherokee County winners.
The Georgia PTA Outstanding Nurse Award, which honors school nurses for going above and beyond, was presented to Jenny Juneghani of Hickory Flat ES for Elementary School, more than 750 students and to Ayn McLaurin of Mill Creek MS for Middle School. They previously had earned this honor for Georgia PTA District 13.
The top state honor for PTA units, Outstanding Local Unit, recognizes success in all areas. Clark Creek ES STEM Academy PTA won for Elementary School, more than 750 students; and Woodstock HS PTSA won for High School. Both Woodstock HS and River Ridge HS also were formally recognized for earning National PTA School of Excellence honors in 2021; the recognition is for two years.
Two CCSD school PTAs earned state-level Hearst Family–School Partnership awards, which honor excellence in bringing the school and community together to support student success. Little River ES PTA was recognized for the area of Speaking up for Every Child, and R.M. Moore ES PTA was recognized for Communicating Effectively.
The Cherokee County Council PTA, which encompasses all of CCSD’s school PTA Units, earned the top statewide honor of Georgia Outstanding Council PTA. Its executive board is made up of Co-Presidents Lori Burton and Catherine Shook, Vice President 1 Scott Steinbrenner, Vice President 2 Emily Trenbeath, Secretary Tiffani Hairgrow and Treasurer Marieline Reedy.
“Congratulations to our outstanding nurses and PTA leaders – we’re incredibly proud to see your dedication to our students recognized at the state level,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower said. “The PTA is our oldest and most valuable partner, and its continued support means so much to our schools and district as a whole. Thank you for all that our Cherokee County Council PTA and school PTA leaders and volunteers do, from fundraising to volunteering to advocating – we appreciate you!”
