The Cobb County Board of Elections and Registration announced that it would hold a meeting to recertify their results from the midterm election after a recount of the Kennesaw City Council Post 1 race ballots changed the outcome by a few votes, a recent report from FOX 5 Atlanta said.

On Nov. 8, Madelyn Orochena was told she had won a seat on the Kennesaw City Council by 16 votes, the report said. Orochena was contacted again approximately 24 hours later with news that a memory card from one of the precincts had not been uploaded.

"Unfortunately, once found we did upload it, and it changed the outcome of the Kennesaw City Council race," Janine Eveler, Cobb County Elections director, told FOX 5.

In the aftermath of the recount, Lynette Burnette officially jumped ahead by at least 31 votes, prompting outrage from Orochena and her demand for a full recount of "181-thousand or so ballots" that were cast in the Nov. 8 race, the report said.

The formal recount was held over a 48-hour period before the board was ready to name an official winner.

The formal recertification meeting was held on Wednesday, Nov. 23, at 995 Roswell St. NE in Marietta and was open to the public; an official notice said.

"The recount changed the results by a few votes but did not change the winner of the race," a board spokesperson told Fox 5.
