Young musicians in Georgia are being offered a unique opportunity to connect with like-minded peers who share a passion for music through the Georgia Youth Symphony Orchestras (GYSO). Established in 2006 as part of the Georgia Symphony Orchestra, GYSO has become one of the largest youth orchestra programs in the Southeast, catering to students from 17 metro counties in elementary through high school.

Antonia Patel, a cellist in GYSO's Camerata orchestra, shared her experience of the program, expressing, "I love the challenge of playing harder and harder music and seeing my friends each week." Similarly, her older brother Aidan Patel, a violinist in GYSO's Philharmonic orchestra, highlighted the program's role in helping him make new friends, stating, "We had just moved to the East Cobb area and I felt GYSO would provide an opportunity to play as part of an orchestra and help me make new friends, too."

Zehari Williams, a violinist in GYSO's Philharmonic orchestra and Strings Symposium, emphasized the appeal of playing higher-level music in a symphonic setting, saying, "It’s been a wonderful experience and I’m honored to be in GYSO." Additionally, Will Weaver, a violist and violinist with GYSO for six years, praised the program's diversity of ensembles, providing opportunities for students to explore different musical genres like chamber music.

GYSO stands out for its commitment to nurturing young musicians and supporting their musical development. Led by industry professionals, the program offers a comprehensive music experience that fosters excellence on both individual and collective levels. Students are given the chance to perform throughout the year, honing their skills and showcasing their talents.

Auditions for the fall 2024 season at GYSO will commence on April 15, offering aspiring musicians the chance to be part of this vibrant community. For those interested in learning more about the GYSO program, audition process, or need-based scholarships, further information can be found on the georgiayouthsymphony.org website.

The Georgia Youth Symphony Orchestras provide a platform for young musicians to grow, connect, and excel in their musical journeys, creating a community of peers who share a common love for music and a desire to expand their musical horizons.
