Former Georgia Governor Roy Barnes and former First Lady Marie Barnes recently hosted a special event in support of the Georgia Symphony Orchestra. The 'Carnival of the Animals' benefit took place at their home and was a night to remember for all attendees.

The event, sponsored by S.A. White Oil Company and The Manely Firm, P.C., featured a variety of activities for the guests to enjoy. From cocktails and a buffet dinner to a silent auction and captivating musical performances, the evening was a true celebration of the arts.

During the event, GSO Music Director and Conductor Timothy Verville highlighted the organization's mission and its four pillars, including the orchestra, GSO Chorus, GSO Jazz!, and the Georgia Youth Symphony Orchestras (GYSO) program. Verville's remarks shed light on the importance of the arts and the GSO's commitment to fostering musical talent.

Suzanne Tucker, GSO executive director, also shared some insightful words with the attendees. She emphasized the significance of financial support for local arts organizations, stating, "We’ve all seen local arts organizations that disappeared overnight without it." Tucker's remarks underscored the vital role that community support plays in sustaining cultural institutions like the Georgia Symphony Orchestra.

The event's proceeds were dedicated to benefiting the GYSO program and supporting the GSO's upcoming family and sensory-friendly concerts. These concerts, scheduled for April 27, 2024, at the Marietta Performing Arts Center, will feature Camille Saint-Saëns' "Carnival of the Animals," offering a unique musical experience for all attendees.
