Georgia Power has announced that Plant Vogtle Unit 4 has officially entered commercial operation, marking a significant milestone in the state's energy landscape. With this new unit now in service, the Plant Vogtle facility has become the largest generator of clean energy in the United States.

The completion of Vogtle Unit 4 means that the plant can now produce enough electricity to power an estimated 500,000 homes and businesses, providing reliable and emissions-free energy for at least the next six to eight decades. This achievement follows the commercial operation of Vogtle Unit 3 in July 2023, solidifying Plant Vogtle's position as a major contributor to clean energy production in the nation.

Kim Greene, chairman, president, and CEO of Georgia Power, expressed enthusiasm about the state's commitment to clean energy, stating, "It’s an exciting time to be a Georgian as our state continues to grow and thrive, with new demand for more clean energy each year." Greene highlighted the strategic importance of the new Vogtle units in meeting the long-term energy needs of customers.

Furthermore, Chris Womack, chairman, president, and CEO of Southern Company, emphasized the significance of the Vogtle expansion, calling it a "hallmark achievement" for the state of Georgia and the entire country. Womack praised the collaborative efforts that led to the successful completion of the new nuclear units, which contribute to enhancing the reliability and affordability of the energy system.

In addition to providing clean and reliable energy, the construction of Vogtle Units 3 and 4 has brought substantial economic benefits to Georgia and local communities. The project has created 800 permanent jobs and employed over 9,000 workers at the peak of construction, demonstrating the positive impact on job creation and economic growth.

The completion of Vogtle Unit 4 represents a significant step towards achieving a more sustainable energy future for Georgia, showcasing the state's commitment to innovation and leadership in the clean energy sector.

Georgia Power's dedication to delivering clean, safe, reliable, and affordable energy remains unwavering, as the company continues to focus on providing world-class service to its customers and contributing to the advancement of renewable energy sources.
