On Wednesday, September 11, 2024, the City of Acworth was notified that it has been designated a 2025 PlanFirst Community by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs. The city will participate in the program for three years, from January 1, 2025, until December 31, 2027.

This designation recognizes the successful implementation of Acworth’s comprehensive plan and its commitment to identifying opportunities and setting goals to advance the community. An official PlanFirst designation ceremony will be held at the State Capitol in early 2025. The designation also provides Acworth with various incentives offered through the program.

The recognition places Acworth among communities in Georgia that have developed a robust vision for their future and maintain an active strategy for achieving that vision. Additional information on the PlanFirst program is available on the Georgia Department of Community Affairs website at dca.ga.gov.

Acworth is a municipality in Cobb County, located 35 miles northwest of Atlanta, with a population of approximately 24,000. It holds several other distinctions including being an All-America City – Hall of Fame, a Georgia Exceptional Main Street, a GMA Visionary City, and Georgia’s first Foster Friendly City.
