Cobb students and teachers excel at Georgia Music Educators Association conference

Cobb County School District showcased its musical prowess at the recent Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA) In-Service Conference. The district's students and educators made a significant impact with performances and presentations, reinforcing Cobb's reputation as a leader in music education.

During the three-day event, Cobb student musicians participated in nine performances, while Cobb music teachers led 14 sessions aimed at sharing expertise with educators statewide. Kennesaw Mountain High School student Talal Jean-Louis gained attention during the student composition recital showcase.

The conference featured notable performances from various schools within the district: Allatoona High School Jazz Band, Harrison High School Cello Trio and Chamber Orchestra, Hightower Trail Middle School 8th Grade Orchestra, Lassiter High School Percussion Ensemble and Tenor-Bass Choir, Simpson Middle School 8th Grade Orchestra, Walton High School Jazz Band 1, and a student composition by Talal Jean-Louis from Kennesaw Mountain High School.

Cobb educators played an essential role in the conference by presenting valuable insights to fellow teachers. The list of presenters included Erika Brown from Big Shanty Intermediate School, Jay Champion from Lost Mountain Middle School, Harrison Cook from Kennesaw Mountain High School, Dr. Chris Ferrell from Cobb Schools Supervisor of Instrumental Music, Andrew Geocaris from Cobb Schools Professional Learning Coordinator for Fine Arts, among others.

Cobb County's commitment to excellence in music education was evident throughout the conference. The district continues to inspire future generations of musicians and educators through its dedication to providing high-quality music education programs.
