Composer Laura Estes visited today to work with the 1st and 2nd-period bands in a special clinic session. The bands will perform her compositions for LGPE, receiving direct feedback from Estes on style and expression.

Dr. Grogan commented, "This is a rare and valuable experience for our musicians!"

Estes, born in 1959, retired from teaching in 2018 after 36 years as a middle and high school band director. She then began composing, with her first piece "Kvetchers (Surprises in Controversial Time)" published in Excelcia Music Publishing’s 2020 catalog. Her composition "Walking on Air" won the 2021 Women Band Directors International Composition Competition.

Her works are featured at events such as the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic and various state music conventions. Estes composes for wind band, strings, and full orchestra.
