Volunteers play a crucial role in the Cobb Schools community, offering their time to enhance students' learning experiences, assist teachers, and lead various school initiatives. Recently, the Cobb Schools Foundation held the 2025 Volunteer of the Year Awards and Luncheon at Jim R. Miller Park Event Center in Marietta to acknowledge these contributions.
Every year, one volunteer from each school in the district is recognized for their exceptional service. Felicia Wagner, Executive Officer of the Cobb Schools Foundation, expressed gratitude by stating, “You guys are a part of our One Team... We don’t want to do it without you. We can’t.”
The honored volunteers engage in diverse activities such as organizing events, mentoring students, and providing resources. Notable examples include Mark Cobb at Addison Elementary School who supports academic enrichment through volunteering in the Learning Commons and assisting with the chess club. James Collins contributes his musical talents at Campbell Middle School as a Jazz Band arranger.
Some volunteers focus on student well-being. Angie Sklar ensures that over 290 students at Green Acres Elementary receive food regularly. Karen Miller and her parishioners at St. Ann’s support LaBelle Elementary with essential supplies.
At Austell Elementary School, Lyrika Holmes offers free music lessons to students. Volunteers like Frank Puffer dedicate time to mentoring roles at Birney and Hollydale elementary schools by reading with students and supporting teachers.
Volunteering extends beyond elementary schools into middle and high schools. Elizabeth Wentz has enhanced community efforts at Mabry Middle School through PTSA involvement while Ashley Siegal coordinates volunteer activities for East Cobb Middle School.
In high schools, Michelle Pearce supports Kennesaw Mountain High School's drama programs behind the scenes. Jamie Webb invests significant effort in managing Pebblebrook High School’s PHS One Booster program for student-athletes.
A notable announcement during this year's event was Mike Lindemen’s $30,000 donation to the Cobb Schools Foundation aimed at helping families in need—a testament to strong community partnerships supporting student success.
The annual Volunteer of the Year Awards highlight dedication across all levels within Cobb Schools. The contributions of these volunteers are invaluable as they continue fostering growth and engagement within their communities.
