ATLANTA – State Representative Sharon Cooper (R-Marietta), chair of the House Committee on Public Health, joined Governor Brian Kemp today as he signed into law House Bill 1072, a piece of legislation aimed at enhancing pharmacy operations in Georgia.

Chair Sharon Cooper expressed her satisfaction with the new law, stating, "I was proud to see this much-needed legislation be enacted into law to demonstrate our ongoing efforts to improve healthcare accessibility and quality in Georgia as this bill underscores the state’s commitment to fostering a robust healthcare system that prioritizes patient safety, efficiency and innovation in pharmaceutical services." She further added, “The governor’s signing of this bill marks a positive advancement in the state’s healthcare landscape, benefiting patients, pharmacies, and healthcare providers alike.”

House Bill 1072 brings about several changes in pharmacy regulations, including the expansion of closed-door pharmacies, regulation of pharmaceutical expiration dates, adjustments in pharmacy technician to pharmacist ratios for the drug repository program, and mandates proportional distribution of settlement proceeds from non-controlled substance prescription drugs based on program participation rates.
