The Cobb Chamber's South Cobb Area Council has announced the recipients of its 2024 Citizens of the Year awards, recognizing individuals from Austell, Mableton, and Powder Springs for their contributions to the community. Quintasha Swanson was named Austell Citizen of the Year, Carolyn Turner received the honor for Mableton, and Elliott Hennington was recognized for Powder Springs.
The awards celebrate individuals whose efforts have significantly improved their communities. Recipients are chosen based on nominations from local areas. The 2024 awards were presented at a luncheon held at the Riverside EpiCenter.
Quintasha Swanson serves as Executive Director at The Haven of Help, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping individuals and families achieve self-sufficiency. Her initiatives include employment services and community events like the annual Back-2-School Bash. Swanson also holds roles such as Executive Assistant to Austell's Chief of Police and President of South Cobb High School’s Parent Teacher Student Association.
Carolyn Turner is recognized as Mableton Citizen of the Year for her work with H.O.P.E Family Resource Center. She is involved in numerous community activities, including school supply drives and supporting small businesses. Turner also serves on various boards such as the Mableton Improvement Coalition and FEMA Emergency Food and Shelter Program.
Elliott Hennington was honored for his extensive service in Powder Springs. His roles include leadership positions with Cobb County Parks and Recreation Board and Destiny World Church. Hennington organizes events like the Annual Back-to-School Bash and Giving Hope for Holidays event, contributing to education support through tutoring at Tapp Middle School.
