Georgia Schools Superintendent Richard Woods recently acknowledged the achievements of 25 schools in the Cobb County School District, recognizing them as Literacy Leaders. This recognition took place at Mountain View Elementary School.
Board member Brad Wheeler highlighted the significance of literacy in student success, stating, “Literacy is the foundation of success, and it’s clear Cobb students have a strong foundation. Our schools are recognized as leaders because our teachers are able to focus on what matters and use Georgia standards as their guide.”
Each school received ribbons for their Literacy Leader Banner. Seven elementary schools were honored for the second consecutive year. Additionally, this was the first time middle and high schools were acknowledged for literacy achievement, with eight Cobb schools earning this distinction.
The event also celebrated instructional coaches, teachers pivotal to reading success, and school administrators. Superintendent Ragsdale commended Cobb educators' efforts in emphasizing literacy.
State Superintendent Woods noted that Cobb's literacy accomplishments result from deliberate actions: “doesn't happen just by chance, but it is intentionality.”
