As Thanksgiving approaches, the Cobb Schools Board of Education meeting highlighted ongoing academic achievements and future goals. Superintendent Chris Ragsdale opened the session by celebrating recent STEM accomplishments in the district.

Hayes Elementary School, Sedalia Park Elementary School, Russell Elementary School, and Sprayberry High School received Cobb STEM Certifications. Nearly 50 schools in Cobb County are now certified, showcasing their dedication to providing students with enriched STEM learning experiences.

Dr. Hannah Oldham was recognized as the Air & Space Forces Association STEM Teacher of the Year for her contributions to Sprayberry High School's STEM program. Her efforts have led to Sprayberry students winning the Worldwide Plant Mars Competition twice.

Superintendent Ragsdale reassured attendees of the district's commitment to student safety and maintaining Cobb as "the best place to teach, lead, and learn." He emphasized that the book review process would continue as part of these efforts.

“The sexualization of children will always be a battle between good and evil," Ragsdale stated. "There is no middle ground."

Ragsdale addressed how some critics view education as a tool for social activism rather than focusing on student success. He discussed safety measures following events at Apalachee High School and introduced Rob Sarver from Servius Group to present new safety strategies.

Despite criticism labeling these efforts as akin to a "secret police," Ragsdale assured that they aim to address issues proactively without profiling or harassment.

He also responded to allegations of violating state procurement law, stating they were unfounded based on multiple audits.

In his remarks, Ragsdale reflected on recent elections where Cobb County voters supported board members up for re-election. He emphasized a shared commitment across Cobb towards education centered on academic excellence and student achievement.

The superintendent reiterated the importance of keeping politics out of classrooms while respecting diverse viewpoints. He concluded by affirming Cobb's focus on delivering high academic performance and safe school environments.
