The Cobb Schools’ Athlete of the Week program continues to highlight outstanding student-athletes, recognizing those who excel in sports, academics, and their school communities. This week, two state-champion wrestlers from North Cobb and Osborne have been honored.
Ronan An, a sophomore at North Cobb High School, has made a significant impact on his wrestling team. Competing for nine years, Ronan achieved an undefeated 50-0 record this season and won the 215-pound individual 6A state championship. His dedication extends beyond athletics; he maintains a 4.4 GPA and is involved with North Cobb's Magnet Advisory Committee. Coach Michael Dillard praised Ronan as "a once-in-a-lifetime athlete," highlighting his leadership qualities and willingness to help teammates. Athletic Director Matt Williams also commended Ronan's hard work and leadership by example.
Sandra DeSouza, a senior at Osborne High School, has similarly distinguished herself by winning the Traditional Girls 235-pound 6A state championship. She is Osborne’s first female wrestling state champion since 1982. Sandra actively participates in various athletic programs at her school, including managing the football team and competing in track events like shot put and discus. Head Wrestling Coach Troy Pruett acknowledged her role in the success of Osborne's girls' wrestling team over recent years. Athletic Director Ron Boggs described Sandra as "a gritty, humble leader" who fosters a positive culture through her actions.
Both athletes have set remarkable examples within their schools and communities through their achievements in wrestling and contributions to school life.
