March 18, 2025—In Cobb County, five high school coaches have recently reached significant career milestones, highlighting their dedication and leadership in the sports community. These achievements underscore their ability to motivate players and make a lasting impact on their programs.

South Cobb Boys Basketball Head Coach Hollis Bethea celebrated his 300th career win after defeating Harrison on January 14, 2025. After an eight-year hiatus from coaching while working as an administrator in Fulton County Schools, Bethea returned to coaching in 2013 and has since added over 100 wins to reach this milestone.

Achieving 500 wins in high school baseball is rare due to the limited number of games per season. Four coaches from Cobb have now joined this exclusive club. Walton's Shane Amos reached his 500th win with a victory over North Cobb. Amos has spent his entire career in Cobb and over three decades at Walton, winning two state titles and seven region titles while guiding his teams to the postseason 20 times.

Kennesaw Mountain's Head Coach George Hansen also recorded his 500th win with a victory over Paulding County. He achieved this alongside longtime assistant coach Rich Oria. Together, they have celebrated numerous victories throughout their careers at Kennesaw, including four region titles and several postseason successes.

Keith Hansen of Allatoona matched his brother's accomplishment by securing his 500th win against Cartersville. In his head coaching tenure spanning over two decades, Keith Hansen has led his team to the postseason multiple times, earning nine region titles and being state runner-up twice.

"This is a glimpse into the quality of people we have in Cobb," stated Director of Athletics Don Baker. "That number didn't just happen. It happened through a lot of work and through really good kids on the field and off the field, really good booster clubs and community members, and administrations that help with the things that they need."

"These five won't be the only ones to reach milestones this year, but it's a real true testament to what they've been doing at their individual schools and in their programs. We couldn't be more proud of all five of them!" concluded Don Baker.
