At the recent Cobb County School District Board of Education meeting, district leaders celebrated notable achievements by students and staff. The board recognized student-athletes for their performances in wrestling and swimming, with 16 swim and dive state champions, two individual state wrestling champions, and several relay teams achieving top honors.
The board also honored Cobb's School Social Worker of the Year and an adult learner who received national recognition. Patria Brown was celebrated as the national winner of the Adult Learner of the Year Award. Last year, she was named 2024 Adult Education Student of the Year by the Technical College System of Georgia.
Superintendent Ragsdale took time to acknowledge two prominent coaches in Georgia high school sports history. He stated, “Regarding the Campbell community, in over three decades in education, I have rarely seen the amount of love and support for a coach as I have from the Campbell community for both coaches McClure and Gwynn." Ragsdale initiated a review concerning their dismissal, which has led to an investigation.
Ragsdale emphasized that antisemitism is not tolerated within Cobb Schools. He shared his personal connection to this issue: “Earlier this evening, we heard many remarks regarding antisemitism...Antisemitism will not be tolerated in any form."
The superintendent reaffirmed commitments to safety measures within schools. As part of ongoing efforts, "Dead End" by Jason Myers was removed due to inappropriate content. Additionally, a new safety initiative hosted by The Servius Group will feature educational sessions on critical safety topics like Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC).
