Cobb Schools' Athlete of the Week program highlights outstanding student-athletes excelling in sports, academics, and their communities. Supported by BSN Sports, this initiative recognizes two athletes each week.
This week's honorees are Peyton Garrett from Allatoona and Sophie Hortman from Lassiter. Peyton Garrett, a senior captain of the Buc tennis team, is having an undefeated season and has contributed to his team's success. He recently defeated last year's region champion from Cartersville and led his team to victories at the North Cobb Invitational Tournament and the Lagrange Invitational Tournament. Beyond tennis, he is involved in Spirit Club and the Scallywags for the Bucs.
"Peyton is a true standout and has been since he started to play for me his sophomore year," said Michaela Hicks, his coach. "He really grew in his capacity for effort by leading from the second slot the past two years." Coach Hicks added with confidence about Peyton's potential success in upcoming championships.
Sophie Hortman, a junior midfielder for Lassiter's lacrosse team, also excels as a dual-sport athlete committed to playing lacrosse at James Madison University. Her leadership on the field has led her team to an impressive 6-1 record against state opponents. She maintains a 4.2 GPA while being recognized with several awards including USA Lacrosse All-American.
"Sophie is a true leader on and off the field," commented Lassiter Lacrosse Coach Angela Brunner. "Her dedication extends beyond practice and competition." Coach Brunner praised her as both a vocal leader and someone who embraces feedback with determination.
The achievements of Peyton Garrett and Sophie Hortman reflect their dedication to their sports, education, and school communities.
