Wheeler High School Theatre is set to take audiences on a journey to Whoville with its production of Seussical Jr. The performances are scheduled for January 17 at 7:00 pm and January 18 at 5:00 pm, taking place at the Wheeler Performance Arts Center in Marietta, Georgia.
Seussical Jr. brings to life the world of Dr. Seuss with characters familiar to many. The musical is crafted by Tony-winning writers Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty and is narrated by the Cat in the Hat. The story follows Horton the Elephant as he discovers a speck of dust that contains Whoville, a tiny town threatened by Jungle Nool Creatures. As Horton takes on Mayzie La Bird's request to sit on an egg, his search for Whoville gets interrupted but is ultimately aided by Gertrude McFuzz. Themes of friendship, loyalty, family, and community are central to the narrative.
The production aims to highlight "the power of being unique" and "the importance of fighting for your beliefs."
