Heather Garrett, a seasoned educator in Cobb County, is ready to welcome new kindergarten students this August. Reflecting on her motivation to teach, Garrett stated, "I became a teacher because, at ten years old, I knew I wanted to be the person who instilled the love of learning in a child's life. I taught my sister and my stuffed animals until I could teach real students."
Garrett emphasized the importance of starting young: “I love teaching kindergarten because I’m able to instill a foundation for children.” She finds joy in observing her students' growth in confidence and skills over the academic year.
For both students and their parents, the start of kindergarten is a significant milestone, and Cobb County educators understand the emotional day that it can be. "We've had parents that will cry on the first day because it's maybe their first child, and they're sending them off for the first time. Just know that your children are safe and loved when they are at school,” Cobb kindergarten teacher Erica Tillery assured.
Sarah Stewart, another teacher in the district, expressed how essential it is for children to feel supported at school, saying, "All Cobb elementary schools are full of adults who love children. That’s why we’re here. We want your child to feel safe, happy, and excited to come to school every day."
With registration beginning, Ms. Tillery shared her confidence in the education provided by Cobb County schools. "Cobb County schools would be a great choice for any family because we teach kids how to be 21st-century learners. We’re giving them the skills to collaborate, think critically, and interact with a diverse world."
The Cobb County School District offers an online registration system for convenience and efficiency, accommodating families to register their children safely. This system allows parents to register multiple students, save their progress, and complete it later. For families already in the district, registration of additional students can be done through the ParentVUE account.
Parents should prepare the necessary documents for their child's registration, including proof of residency, certificates of immunization, and screening forms obtained from a health provider, as well as proof of birthdate and social security details. These documents are essential, particularly for students eligible for the HOPE Scholarship.
