The Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) has acknowledged several schools across the state for their outstanding academic performance or improvement. This recognition includes Title I Distinguished and Reward Schools, as well as Comprehensive Support & Improvement (CSI) schools that have shown progress over the past year.
McCall Primary School has been designated as a "Distinguished" school, while Norton Park Elementary has earned the title of a "Reward" school. The Distinguished Schools designation is awarded to the highest-performing Title I schools in Georgia. In contrast, the Reward Schools designation highlights those Title I schools making significant improvements.
Distinguished Schools represent the top 5% of Title I Schoolwide and Title I Targeted Assistance schools based on combined English Language Arts (ELA) and math content mastery scores from statewide assessments conducted during 2022-2023. Reward Schools are among the top 5% of greatest-improving Title I Schoolwide and Targeted Assistance schools when comparing content mastery scores from the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 statewide assessments.
Additionally, two Cobb County schools have been recognized for their progress on the Content Mastery component of the College & Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI). City View Elementary and Cobb Horizon High School achieved this by demonstrating a 5% increase in their CCRPI Content Mastery component score from 2023 to 2024 and maintaining a score of 80 or higher on one of the other components such as Progress, Closing Gaps, or Readiness.
State School Superintendent Richard Woods expressed his pride in these achievements: "I am incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication demonstrated by all the students, teachers, and school communities recognized today." He added that both CSI progress and exit schools have collaborated with GaDOE's Office of School & District Improvement to enhance performance and broaden opportunities for students. Woods also commended Title I Distinguished and Reward Schools for overcoming challenges to achieve substantial gains for their students. "Together, these schools prove that with collaboration, innovation, and a commitment to success, all students can achieve their fullest potential," he stated.
