The Cobb County School District has received recognition for its achievements in mathematics education, with 44 of its schools designated as "Georgia Math Leaders" by State School Superintendent Richard Woods. Known for their exceptional math achievements, these schools have demonstrated high levels of student growth and proficiency.
Superintendent Woods made a visit to Smitha Middle School to formally acknowledge the efforts of these schools. This event came after a prior celebration in the fall where Cobb schools were honored for their literacy achievements.
Woods highlighted the significance of progress in education, stating, "The banners and ribbons are designed to recognize growth. Growth is extremely important. We may not be at the promised land of proficiency yet, but it’s important to acknowledge that we are moving in the right direction.” He also commended the collaborative effort of all school staff, from teachers to custodians, in facilitating a conducive learning environment.
The Cobb schools recognized have shown significant advancements in math scores. Pearson Middle School led these efforts, achieving the highest growth, while Lindley Middle School reported a noteworthy 40.9-point improvement. Elementary schools like Eastvalley demonstrated substantial gains, while middle schools such as Griffin and Floyd posted impressive increases.
Among high achievers, five middle schools achieved a 100% pass rate for the high school math test. Kennesaw Mountain High School recorded the most significant growth among high schools with a 30.6-point improvement.
Additionally, Ford Elementary School has been named a Georgia Flagship School, recognized for its exceptional support for military families. Superintendent Woods noted Ford's commitment to providing a supportive educational setting for students connected to the military.
