Cobb Schools' Athlete of the Week (AOW) program recognizes high-performing student-athletes weekly, with support from BSN Sports. The latest honorees are Damian Phipps from Pebblebrook and Mackenzie Moon from Sprayberry.
Damian Phipps, a junior on the Falcon baseball team, showcased his skills in a recent game against South Cobb by hitting a home run and recording four RBIs. Apart from baseball, he also plays as a wide receiver for the Falcon football team and participates in the Morehouse Upward Bound Program. Falcon Head Coach Anthony Robinson praised Damian, stating, "Damian is the kind of young man that any coach would love to have on his team; he is the true definition of a coach’s player." Robinson further added that Damian possesses a strong work ethic, natural leadership skills, and a positive attitude, making him a role model for his classmates and teammates.
Mackenzie Moon, a senior on the Yellow Jacket lacrosse team, has been a significant contributor throughout her high school career. She has accumulated 14 goals, two assists, and eight draw controls. Mackenzie is recognized not only for her competitive spirit but also for her supportive nature off the field. She has earned several team awards and is actively involved in numerous extracurricular activities, including the Beta Club and Chamber Orchestra. Coach Marta Barbosa highlighted Mackenzie's leadership, saying, "Mackenzie is an excellent role model for our team. She shows up early, stays late, and always encourages her teammates to push harder."
Both athletes embody dedication, perseverance, and leadership, serving as examples for their peers in Cobb. Congratulations to Damian and Mackenzie for their achievements and contributions to their teams and communities.
